SM Entertainment artist BoA is a superstar in Korea and Japan and will soon be in a movie called Cobu 3D. She's searching for similar success in the United States. NY1's Lewis Dodley filed the following report.

Her name is BoA. In 2000, she released her first album at the age of 13 for SM Entertainment. It reached the top 10 in Korea but her company's master plan called for something bigger.

One year later she moved to Japan, where she mastered the language and released "Listen to My Heart." It debuted at number one on the charts and made her a household name in that country.

Her second Japanese CD, called "Valenti," sold more than a million copies and solidified her as a superstar. BoA's star was also shining bright in Korea, as fans watched her grow up before their very eyes.

20 million records later, SM decided it was time for America. More than 200 journalists from around the world were there for the announcement that BoA would make her debut in the United States, one she talked to NY1 about exclusively three years ago.

"Every artist has dreams about the American market," she said. "Yeah, I wanted to go to America and my company did too. So we think we've made a really good album together and now it's happening."

Though the album failed to meet SM's expectations, her talent was recognized by director Duane Adler. He was so impressed, he's making Cobu 3D, a soon-to-be-released movie based on BoA. It co-stars Derek Hough and BoA as Ara.

"Ara is Korean in blood and born and raised in Japan," BoA said. "She followed her brother to New York. She's the leader of the Cobu team."

"BoA is definitely a great dancer," said entertainment writer David Li. "She's a phenomenal singer. She is a great performer. But I don't know if the American audience is quite ready for BoA to take over this nation."

While still new to the U.S., BoA has already risen to legend status in Korea. Whether it be in movies or music, you can this legend will never give up on her U.S. Dream.
